Who You'll Work With
Building a home is a long relationship. These are the people you'll work with from the first conversation through the final walkthrough, and the experience they bring to it.
Co-Owner, General Manager
Kyle joined Ellis Custom Homes after graduating from James Madison University in 2018. During college, he worked with our contractors laying out and pouring footers and foundations. He excels at managing and coordinating Construction Management, subcontracting and customer relations. Kyle oversees construction, the day-to-day running of the business, and leads the planning for the future of the company.
Co-Owner
Steve has been in new home construction since 1999, when he started Countryside Homes in Danville. From 2006 to 2015 he served as general construction manager for one of the largest custom home builders in central Virginia. In 2015 he co-founded a custom home building operation that built more than 150 homes across southwestern Virginia, before separating the Smith Mountain Lake side of the business to form Ellis Custom Homes with his son Kyle.
Sales & Marketing
Joe has spent nearly forty years in homebuilding sales and marketing, most of it with large-volume scattered-lot builders. He started in sales at Patwil Homes in 1987 and moved up to regional vice president, overseeing thirteen offices in western Pennsylvania. He went on to lead sales and marketing for Bastian Homes across twelve locations in four states. He has been in homebuilding in the Lynchburg and Smith Mountain Lake area for the past twenty years, including alongside Steve at a previous company they founded together. At Ellis he provides strategic direction and oversees sales, marketing, and advertising.
Quality Control
Jerry brings more than thirty years in home construction to Ellis, most recently as field superintendent for one of the premier custom home builders at the lake. He has worked every stage of a build, from foundation and framing through mechanical systems and finish work. Jerry is our check and balance in the field.
Construction Manager
Matt supports Ellis Custom Homes in the field as a construction manager and brings more than fifteen years of experience in the building and building-supply businesses.
Sales
Michel leads the sales side of the business, working with customers at the start of the process and guiding them all the way through until construction begins. She has helped customers build homes in numerous subdivisions in and around Smith Mountain Lake and is well-versed in their HOAs and restrictive covenants.
Sales & Design
Maxx helps customers navigate the early stages of the home-building process. He brings more than a decade of experience in building materials, exterior products, project sales, and customer relationship management. Known for his attention to detail and strong technical product knowledge, Maxx works closely with customers to understand their needs, explain the options, and help them make informed decisions for their new home.
